17TH CENTURY FOUR - BULP HOURGLASSES

A very rare church hourglass from the 17th century.
These were fitted on the pulpit with a wrought iron bracket.
Visitors could see from the hourglass how much speaking time was left.
Brass casing with lots of impacted decorations and eleven spiralling pillars.
Both undersides are decorated with concentric rings and stars.
Glass has colour differences and irregularities.
The ampoules are connected through classic knot joins from cloth and copper thread.
Height of the casing 17 cm, width 20 cm.
Various running times indicated on the ampoules.
Comes with original metal stand provided with forged curls and a simple cross.
Origin: Augsburg, Germany, beginning of 17th century ca.1620.
